Overview: A category and a secret word are chosen. One player — the Chameleon — sees the category but not the word, and has to bluff a convincing clue anyway.
- Objective
- Everyone else: catch the Chameleon without letting them guess the word. Chameleon: avoid detection, or guess correctly if caught.
- Players
- 3–8 recommended, minimum 3.
- Setup
- Add players and pick which built-in word categories to use, or write your own. Each round picks a random category, a random secret word, and a random Chameleon.
How The Chameleon Works
- Everyone privately sees the secret word (or, for the Chameleon, just the category grid).
- In turn order, each player says one word or short clue related to the secret word — specific enough to prove they know it, vague enough not to give it away.
- After everyone's spoken, discuss out loud and vote for who you think the Chameleon is.
- Winning
- If the real Chameleon is caught, they get one public guess at the word — guessing right steals the win back. If they're not caught, they win automatically. Scoring: Chameleon win = 2 points; everyone else wins = 1 point each.
Tips
- Write your own category if the built-in word lists feel too easy or too hard for your group.
- As the Chameleon, a slightly vague but plausible clue works better than an overly specific guess.
